- We manage more than 300 wells throughout the country, ensuring community involvement and continued maintenance.
- Our focus is on complete water systems that meet the needs of communities regardless of size or demographics. These systems, from pipes to solar pumps, are designed to last for up to 30 years.
- We work closely with Burundi’s Ministry of Mining and Ministry of Environment and Health to establish and maintain national water standards. Doing this means more Burundians will have access to clean water for years to come.
Aline’s Story: Clean water changes a community
Story from Mugere Village in the Colline of Ruziba
(30 minutes South of Bujumbura, along Lake Tanganyika)
Story recorded April, 2018.
My name is Aline Manirambona, I am 24 years old and I have 4 children. I am a farmer. I live near Mugere River. This river was my water source before the well was provided by Think East Africa. This river serves more than 400 families who live in my community. Many diseases like parasites, skin diseases, cholera were the challenges we faced because of the lack of clean water. With this well in our community we appreciate the improvement of health. You can see the faces of the people… they are clean! We are able to get water for drinking, cooking, washing our bodies and doing laundry. I have 7 people in my family; we draw 100 liters of water per day from the well. There are no other organizations working towards clean water in our community. For us, Think East Africa is an answer to our prayers. The community is so happy, my kids are healthy. Our wish is to have more wells because what we received is not enough for the whole community.
