As a successful technology entrepreneur and passionate Christ follower, I have a deep desire to be a great steward of the resources that God has entrusted to me. In 2014, I concluded that bringing clean water to Burundi has more social and eternal impact from finite resources than any other Christian charitable effort. Since then, we’ve been building Think East Africa (TEA) into the NGO that will bring clean water to every unserved community in Burundi by the end of 2028.
Burundi, sometimes called the forgotten country, has been the perfect storm. Years of civil war have decimated the infrastructure and economy, and water is by far the most critical need. Unfortunately, this country has been passed over by major water charities, largely because there has never been an in-country water organization with the resources, equipment, connections, and long-term commitment to build sustainable water projects – until now. Clean water is the first and key foundational step to address abject poverty and Burundi is now the best opportunity to make a massive impact.
With its dense population, and extensive underground water tables, water wells are especially cost effective here because they can provide sustainable clean water to large unserved communities for a generation. Most of our water wells are placed on church properties, which makes the local church the center of the community. These local churches typically experience rapid growth and the gospel of Jesus Christ is spread throughout the entire community. While I’m still the CEO of WatchGuard Video during the workweek, my passion and commitment to the mission of TEA influences my plans, prayers, finances, relationships, and thoughts every day. That is why I am all in.
